Canadian PM guilty of ECOcide

Aerial pictures by Anthony Marr

Last week, Canadian Prime Minister and oil man Stephen Harper went to China, not as a dignified statesman but as a glorified salesman, to peddle the filthy tar sands crude and cruelty-derived seal products to China and other G-20 countries. He pretty much guaranteed that the pipeline from northern Alberta, where the mines are located and where the Athabascan watershed has become one gigantic carcinogen, through the thousand mountains and streams of my province British Columbia to the BC sea ports of Kitimat and Prince Rupert, is a done deal and will be built, regardless of the environmental hearing and public consultation still to come over the next couple of years.

In other words, he will go through the motion of democracy and deny the essence of it. While preaching with words to China to be "democratic", he demonstrated by deed how to use the almighty dollar to crush democracy itself.

A pipeline through BC will burst, and oil tankers in BC waters will spill. These are probablistic inevitabilities. They will not be accidents, but accidents-waiting-to-happen that Mr. Harper himself knows or should know will happen.

Therefore, when (not if) they do, let it be known, right here and now, that MR. HARPER WILL BE HELD PERSONALLY RESPONSIBLE FOR HIS DUE SHARE OF FUTURE DAMAGES INCURRED, AND ANSWER TO THE IRREVERSIBLE CRIME OF ECOCIDE as leader of the atrocity, whether or not he be still in power.

And Karma will have it that history will judge him accordingly.

My mother's final story

I want to thank everyone for your kind remarks about my beloved mother. She is smiling down on all of us and giving us her blessing as we speak.

Chandrika Gadiewasam: "Please write her story!" Sure, here is one. In 2008, I was on my 6th Compassion for Animals Road Expedition (CARE-6) which covered 39 states in the 7 months spanning April and the end of November. By early September, I was in Maryland, when news came from Vancouver that my mom's health was going downhill fast. "No life-threatening disease, just life-force ebbing," said the nice lady on the phone.

The lady was not cheerful in her delivery. The workers at the Lakeview care home all loved her for her sunny and warm smile in a by-definition gloomy place however brightly it was decorated, which attracted them into her room during coffee breaks. The lady on the phone told me that my mom was one of those who made their job enjoyable, meaningful and rewarding.

I also have to correct myself for saying in the previous post that the first thing she told people about me was that I was on TV. No, it was: "He has a good heart," and this does not refer to the organ that pumps blood. The respect the staff showed me, which I mentioned in the previous post, was not because I was some kind of media celeb, but because of what my mom said about me and how she said it. Besides, they had eyes of their own to see us walking arm in arm towards the elevator.

She and I were very close, especially since the passing of my father in 2000 at age 87. Whenever I was in Vancouver, I would see her once every 2-3 days, usually taking her out to lunch, and her eyes would always light up when she saw me walking into her room. As you may know, I have taken 7 CARE-tours since 2003, every time lasting 4-7 months. To my mom, it must have felt like her son going off to war for several months every year, the only difference being that I was not ordered to go by some colonel, but ordered myself to go as my own general. This made me always hesitate to tell her the next year's plan, and dread the day of farewell. But she has never once asked me to shorten my tours, much less to abandon them. So, I called her everyday while on the road, wherever I happened to be. And she repeatedly asked me to thank those who offered me hospitality and comradeship.

So, on this day in early September, 2008, I called her, and when she finally came to the phone, she did seem very tired. But she said, "Don't shorten your tour because of this. I'll be here when you come back."

On the other hand, all my friends, without a single exception, urged me to cut my tour short to be with my mom.

As for me, I had never cut short a CARE-tour, and was frankly very reluctant to quit, especially when it entailed cancelling the talks already set up for late September, October and November. So I struck a compromise. I went on for another 3 weeks to make good most of my commitments in the US northeast, cancelled several downstream, then drove back to Vancouver in 4 days.

(This pic was taken circa the mid to late 1980s, which places her in her mid to late 60s and me in my early to mid 40s.)

I crossed the American/Canadian border On Oct. 18, and went straight to the care home after a long drive from Missoula, Montana. She was in a wheelchair and looked very frail. Only her liquid-sunshine of a tearful smile did not dim. "You didn't have to do this," she said, refer to my cutting short my tour.

I saw her every day until November 8, 2008, when she passed away in the still of the night. The whole care home went into mourning along with my family. Had I not cut short my CARE-6 tour, I would still be somewhere in the Great Lakes region when it happened. I thank all my friends who urged me to go home.

She was a very loving and giving person. My Chinese name "Seeu-Sung" has many meanings, one is "Beautiful Youth". The longer lasting one is "Beautiful Life". I will strive to live up to this name that she bestowed upon me. With deep gratitude.

Sacrifices for our children

I was asking the present generation to make some sacrifices for our future generations, or there might not even be any future generation to make sacrifices for,

when one person in the audience shouted, "I don't know anyone in 'future generations', I have no feelings for them, and don't care a hoot about them. Why sacrifice something real for something hypothetical? My mansion is real, my limo is real, my yacht is real, my bank account is real, my oil stocks are real, my son's inheritance will be real. I'll be damned if I lose one dime to some futuristic fantasy."

I was speechless. How about you?

Gratitude to domestic elephants

Another wonderful creature I've been privileged to touch, and who touched me, was an elephant in India.

First, a disclaimer: I do not support elephant joy-rides (for tourists), as in Thailand, nor do I approve of the training method used there and elsewhere. The Indian way of elephant training is relatively humane, and it is evolving as we speak, with Wildlife Trust of India introducing an elephant-whispering method.

Another major difference is that an Indian mahout and his elephant form a one-on-one life-long relationship, especially considering that the human and elephant lifespans are similar. Every day has a siesta time where the elephant enjoys a massage and bath in a river or waterhole administered by his/her mahout, and that is a joy to behold.

Tigers are disturbed by humans on foot, on or off road. They are not disturbed by humans in vehicles (excluding ATVs) or on elephants. Until a better technology is advanced, the elephant is the only way by which a tiger preservationist can go off road in rugged tiger habitat WITHOUT disturbing the tigers. Only by going off road on elephants can you do any ground level tiger preservation work in tiger habitat, and observe such amazing sequences like these presented below.

This look would mean something quite different were I on foot instead of being on an elephant.

Those still opposed to even wildlife preservationists using domesticated elephants for saving endangered wildlife, including wild elephants by the way, might consider the alternative - extinction of the endangered wildlife. They should bear in mind that driving species to extinction, thus denying their most basic right - to exist - is the ultimate violation of Animal Right, infinitely worse than riding an elephant.

Separation of CORPORATION and STATE!

I'm calling for a major amendment of the U.S. Constitution: Not only should there be a [Separation of Church and State], there should also be a [SEPARATION Of CORPORATION And STATE].

The Almighty $ reigns supreme in the U.S. election which has long become a 3-ring-circus of ignoramuses, bigots and liars. Basically, it is he who has the most $$$ wins, which unflatteringly defines the religiously materialistic society.

The $$$$$ and air time spent, and lost, in fools swapping idiocies and hypocrites exchanging lies, if put into real education, green tech R&D and health care, could have placed America in the forefront of Earth stewardship, but as is, they just go towards dumbing down more and more Americans.

And after the election, the political puppets will do the bidding of their corporate masters - to return their donations many-fold in subsidies (charged against the tax-payer of course), to rape the planet for profit, to screw our kids while laughing all the way to the bank.

[SEPARATION Of CORPORATION And STATE] - so the U.S. Constitution should be amended.

Ignorance + Arrogance = IGNOROGANCE

IGNORANCE and ARROGANCE are the yin/yang of IGNOROGANCE. These two words are so intertwined that their combination is an evil singularity. Why use two ugly words when you can use one? Remember, you heard it here first!

"Evil" because the two negatives together do not make a positive. A good example is Mitt Romney

and the creator and perpetrators of the viral myth of apparently hundreds of thousands of dogs being baked alive in China, illustrating the virus with a picture of what in truth is a "wax-preserved" animal that has nothing to do with baking. In a thread on the latter case is a clarificatuion from Nasha Tachan:

(When reading the following please set veganism aside. This is not about veganism. It is about Ignorogance.)

"The dog in the picture is 'Preserved Meat' or 'Waxed Meat' in Mandarin. In the ancient days of China, there were no refrigerators to store meat… so this was one of the ways to preserve and keep it over long periods of time. Preserved meat is available in duck, pork, chicken, fish and any other meats that are seasonal. They are easily available in Chinatown especially during Chinese New Year. The chosen meat is flattened, de-boned and then marinated with fat, salt, spice and/or wine for a night. After the meat has absorbed the marinate, it is left to air-dry in the dry wintery winds, and for days out in the sun. BAKING IS NEVER PART OF THE PROCESS OF PREPARATION. The petition is obviously based on blatant lies and now it has gone viral, many will be misled by this twisted claim."

Vegan now or not, you've had beef jerky before, haven't you?
